Storm Come Through Cooper County?

Hail, straight-line winds, or a limb through the shingles. We're 30 minutes away and can usually get someone out the same day for a free inspection.

Old Roofs, River Air, and Not Enough Good Options

A lot of the housing stock here goes back generations. Homes from the 1880s through the 1940s with steep-pitched roofs, original slate or wood shake, and decades of patches layered on top of patches. Some of those roofs have held up remarkably well. Others are hanging on by habit.

Then there's the Missouri River. That constant humidity feeds moss and algae growth on north-facing slopes, traps moisture under aging shingles, and accelerates the kind of quiet decay you don't notice until water shows up in the ceiling. Add in the same hail and temperature extremes the rest of Mid-Missouri gets, and these older roofs take a real beating.

  • Historic homes with roofing materials way overdue for replacement
  • River humidity driving moss, algae, and hidden moisture damage
  • Not many certified contractors nearby
  • Storm chasers who show up after big weather and vanish a month later
  • Layer after layer of patches hiding bigger problems underneath

Small Town, Big Gap

Cooper County doesn't have a lot of roofing contractors with manufacturer certifications. Most of the crews working here are either small local operations without the backing to offer real warranties, or out-of-state chasers who roll in after a storm and move on to the next town.

We're close enough to respond quickly and established enough to stand behind what we install. Five offices, 20+ team members, and manufacturer certifications that let us offer warranties most contractors can't.

We’ve Spent 15 Years Earning Trust. Here’s the Proof.

Certifications aren’t trophies we hang on the wall. They’re promises from manufacturers that we install their products the right way, every time. And they back those promises with warranties that only certified contractors can offer.

Straight Answers to the Questions We Hear Most

Yes. Many homes along Main Street have steep pitches, decorative trim, and period-appropriate profiles that matter. We've roofed dozens of historic properties across Mid-Missouri and know how to match the original look with materials that hold up. DaVinci composite slate and shake are usually the best fit. They look like the original but handle Missouri weather far better and last decades longer.

Living near the Missouri River means higher moisture year-round. That humidity speeds up moss and algae growth, which traps moisture against your shingles and shortens their lifespan. It also makes attic ventilation critical. Without it, condensation causes rot you will not see until it is serious. We specify algae-resistant shingles and make sure ventilation is balanced. Most contractors skip this, but it makes a real difference.

Cooper County requires permits for roof replacements. You need the permit before work starts and an inspection after. We handle all of it: pulling the permit, coordinating with the county inspector, and making sure everything is signed off. You don't have to make a single trip to the courthouse.

Options are limited in Cooper County. Most contractors here are either small one-truck operations or storm chasers who leave a few weeks later. We're based in Mid-Missouri with five offices, close enough to respond quickly and large enough to carry manufacturer certifications. Get more than one estimate, but make sure whoever you're comparing actually has the certifications to back up their warranty promises.

We're about 30 minutes from our Columbia headquarters on I-70. For storm emergencies, we can usually have someone on-site the same day. For scheduled work like inspections and replacements, we typically book within a week or two depending on the season. Spring and early summer are our busiest times because that's when storm damage claims peak, so if you're planning a replacement, getting on the schedule in late winter gives you the most flexibility.

The image shows a residential home in a Missouri neighborhood with a weathered asphalt shingle roof, displaying signs of age such as missing shingles and dark streaks, indicating the need for a professional roof inspection or potential roof replacement. This home’s exterior highlights the importance of maintaining roofing to prevent bigger problems like water damage and leaks.

7 Signs You Need a Roof Replacement, Not Just a Repair

Mid-Missouri weather is tough on roofs. Between spring hail, summer windstorms, and freeze-thaw cycles in Columbia, Jefferson City, and the Lake area, asphalt shingles often wear out 2–5 years sooner than national averages. If your roof is 15–25+ years old, showing widespread shingle damage, sagging, granule loss, or repeated leaks, it may be time to consider full replacement instead of another patch repair. In this guide, we break down the 7 key warning signs, explain how storm damage and insurance factor into the decision, and help you determine whether repair or replacement makes the most financial sense for your home.

Roofing Material Comparison: Asphalt vs. Metal vs. Designer Shingles

Choosing between asphalt, metal, and designer shingles comes down to budget, longevity, and how well each material handles Mid-Missouri’s hail, heat, and freeze-thaw cycles. Asphalt offers the lowest upfront cost and fastest installation. Metal delivers 40–70+ years of durability and top-tier energy efficiency. Designer shingles provide upgraded curb appeal and stronger wind resistance at a mid-range price. CoMo Exteriors offers free inspections and side-by-side estimates so you can compare real numbers for your specific roof.

This scene highlights the importance of skilled roofing contractors and the labor costs involved in roof replacement, ensuring quality craftsmanship and adherence to local building codes.

Labor Cost for Roof Installation: What Are You Actually Paying For?

In Mid-Missouri, roofing labor typically makes up 50%–70% of your total installation cost. That labor covers far more than shingle installation. It includes tear-off, safety systems, skilled flashing and ventilation work, project management, and long-term warranty support. Roof size, pitch, height, and material choice are the biggest drivers of labor pricing. CoMo Exteriors provides detailed, line-item estimates so you can clearly see how labor is calculated for your specific roof.

Roof Replacement Cost Breakdown in Mid Missouri – 2026 Guide

In 2026, a typical 1,700–2,000 sq. ft. asphalt shingle roof replacement in Mid-Missouri costs about $8,000–$15,000 ($4.25–$7.50/sq. ft. installed). Labor is often the biggest share, and price changes most with material upgrades, roof complexity, tear-off, and any hidden decking repairs.
