The Reality
Your roof takes a beating here. We get the spring hail, the 100-degree August days that bake shingles brittle, and the January ice storms that pry them loose at the seams. Two or three serious hail events a year, plus temperature swings of 60+ degrees between seasons, are tough on every material up there.
If your home is in Old Southwest or the East Campus neighborhoods, there's a good chance you're looking at a roof from the 1950s or 60s, well past its service life, held together by granules that are mostly in your gutters now. If you're in one of the newer developments south of Rock Bridge, your roof might look fine from the driveway, but that June 2024 hail event left marks you can't see from the ground.
After every major storm, the parking lots along Grindstone and Stadium fill up with out-of-state trucks and magnetic door signs. They knock on every door from Thornbrook to The Highlands offering "free" roof inspections. Six months later, when the flashing fails or the warranty claim gets denied, those trucks are in Oklahoma.
We've watched this happen for 15 years. That's why we're still here, right on I-70 Drive, not some out-of-state dispatch center. We'll be here next year, and the year after that.

Mid-Missouri’s weather demands a lot from a roof. Here’s what we install and when each one makes sense.
The workhorse of Mid-Missouri roofs. Affordable, proven, and available in styles that look far better than what went on your house 20 years ago.
50+ year lifespan, reflects heat in summer, sheds snow in winter. Higher upfront cost, but you may never replace it again.
Commercial-grade systems for low-slope and flat sections. We install TPO, EPDM, and modified bitumen, and we’ll tell you which one fits your building.
The 100-year roof. Natural stone that looks better as it ages. Not for every home or every budget, but if yours can handle the weight, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime install.
The warmth of natural wood or the durability of composite shake. DaVinci composites give you the look without the wildfire risk or constant maintenance.
Spanish, mission, and flat tile profiles. Heavy and permanent. If you want a roof that looks stunning and outlasts you, this is it.
Centuries of proven performance. Clay tile breathes, insulates naturally, and just looks better with age.

Common Questions
Do I need a permit for roof replacement in Columbia?
Yes. The City of Columbia requires a building permit for roof replacements. The permit process through Columbia's Community Development department typically takes 1-3 business days. As your contractor, we handle the entire permitting process: pulling the permit, scheduling the inspection, and making sure everything meets Columbia's building code requirements. You don't have to set foot in City Hall.
What Columbia neighborhoods see the most hail damage?
Hail hits everywhere, but we see more damage in the older neighborhoods, especially Old Southwest, East Campus, and the older parts of North Columbia near Paris Road. Those 1940s-1970s homes have shingles that are way past their prime, so hail does more visible damage. Newer areas like Thornbrook and The Highlands usually have better materials, but they're not immune when a serious storm comes through.
How does Columbia's weather compare for roof longevity?
It's tough on roofs here. We get two to three serious hail events a year, and the temperature swings from over 100 in summer to below zero in winter crack and curl shingles faster than you'd expect. A shingle rated for 30 years in a mild climate realistically lasts 20-25 years here. That's why the installation matters as much as the material. Proper ventilation and quality underlayment make the difference between a roof that lasts and one that doesn't.
Is there a preferred season for roofing in Columbia?
Late spring through early fall gives us the most consistent weather windows in Columbia. Shingles need temperatures above 40 degrees to seal properly. The spring rush typically hits in April after the first big storms, so if you're planning ahead, booking in February or March often means shorter wait times and more flexible scheduling. We do install year-round for emergencies and insurance deadlines. Columbia's weather just requires more careful planning in the winter months.
Do you handle Columbia historic district roofing requirements?
Yes. Some of the older neighborhoods near campus and the North Village Arts District have preservation rules about what you can put on the roof. We've done plenty of work in those areas and know what the Historic Preservation Commission looks for. DaVinci composite slate and shake are usually the sweet spot: they look like the original materials but hold up to modern weather. You get the historic character without the constant maintenance.
