Wood & Engineered Wood Siding in Columbia

Nothing Matches the Warmth of Real Wood. Keeping It That Way Takes a Plan.

Wood siding gives a Columbia home a character no other material can fake. It also asks more of you: paint cycles, moisture watch, and repairs done right. We install and repair natural wood, and we install LP SmartSide engineered wood for homeowners who want the look with far less upkeep. Either way, we’ll help you choose with eyes open.

Just Had a Storm Roll Through Mid-Missouri?

Whether it was hail, high winds, or a tornado touched down nearby — don’t wait to see if your roof held up. We offer free inspections, and we’ll meet your insurance adjuster on-site to make sure nothing gets missed.

Wood Siding Is a Relationship. Missouri Weather Tests It Every Year.

Wood is the only siding that’s alive in a sense. It swells in our humid summers, shrinks in dry January cold, and drinks any water its finish lets through. That’s not a flaw, it’s the nature of the material, and homes that keep up with it stay beautiful for generations.

The trouble starts when life gets busy and the maintenance calendar slips. A repaint pushed back two years. A bottom course sitting close to wet mulch. A woodpecker that found a soft corner. In Columbia’s freeze-thaw winters, small finish failures turn into split boards, and split boards turn into rot you can push a thumb into. By then the conversation isn’t about touch-up paint anymore.

  • Peeling, blistering paint just a few years after the last expensive repaint
  • Soft, rotted boards near the foundation, gutters, and window trim
  • Woodpecker holes and insect damage that keep coming back to the same walls
  • Cupped or split boards from years of swelling and shrinking
  • The repaint-every-few-years cost that never shows up in the original quote

You Don’t Have to Choose Between the Look and Your Weekends

This is exactly the problem engineered wood was built to solve. LP SmartSide is real wood fiber, bonded with resins and treated against moisture, rot, and termites, with the deep grain texture of sawn cedar. It takes hail better than natural wood and holds finish dramatically longer.

“We love the wood look on our house. We just don’t love sanding and repainting it every few summers.”

We hear that from Columbia homeowners constantly, and it’s an honest fork in the road. Some homes, especially older ones with historic character, deserve true cedar and an owner committed to it. For most everyone else, engineered wood delivers the warmth without the workload. We’ll walk your home, show you both side by side, and let you decide. No pressure either way.

From One Rotted Board to a Whole New Exterior

Natural wood or engineered, here’s how we help Columbia homeowners.

01

New Wood & Engineered Wood Installation

Cedar and other natural species for homes that call for the real thing, or LP SmartSide for the wood look with modern durability. Installed with sealed cuts, proper clearances, and flashing done right.

02

Wood Siding Replacement

When rot has spread past spot repairs, we tear off to the sheathing, fix the structure underneath, install fresh weather barrier, and put up siding built for the next few decades. Many homeowners use this moment to step up to engineered wood.

03

Rot, Woodpecker & Board Repair

Soft boards, pecked corners, and split planks replaced and refinished to blend with the wall around them. We’ll also find and fix whatever moisture source caused the damage, because replacing the board without fixing the cause just restarts the clock.

04

Hail & Storm Damage

Hail-split boards and finish damage are often an insurance claim, not an out-of-pocket repair. We document every impact, meet your adjuster, and advocate for fair coverage.

Real Wood, Engineered Wood, and the Looks They Both Wear Well

Two material paths, several classic profiles. We’ll bring samples so you can feel the difference in your hands.

Natural Cedar & Wood Species

Cedar leads for its natural decay and insect resistance, with redwood and cypress as premium alternatives and pine as the budget pick. Genuine grain, ages beautifully, asks for a finish cycle in return.

LP SmartSide Engineered Wood

Treated wood strand engineered to resist rot, termites, and hail, with deep cedar texture and factory-primed or prefinished options. The workhorse choice for Columbia homeowners who want wood without the weekends.

Lap & Tongue-and-Groove

Overlapping horizontal planks are the timeless Columbia look, and tongue-and-groove runs horizontal, vertical, or diagonal for something more tailored.

Board & Batten

Vertical boards with raised battens for farmhouse and contemporary character, on full facades or accent gables.

Shake & Shingle Accents

Wood shake texture on gables and dormers adds rustic depth, in natural cedar or engineered shake panels.

Compare All Types

No Surprises. No Runaround. Here’s Exactly What Happens.

We’ve done this 22,000+ times. You’ll know what’s happening at every step and why.

1

Inspection

We walk every wall and probe the spots wood fails first: bottom courses, trim joints, and anywhere gutters overflow. You get photos and a plain-language explanation of what‘s cosmetic, what’s structural, and what can wait. Free, no obligation, no pressure.

2

Recommendation

Repair or replace, natural or engineered, and honest numbers for each path, including what ongoing maintenance will actually cost you over the years. You decide on your timeline, not ours.

3

Installation

Our crews seal every cut end, keep correct clearances from roofs and grade, and flash every opening to manufacturer spec, because with wood, the details are the difference between decades and a callback. We protect your landscaping and leave the site clean.

4

Warranty & Follow-Up

Your materials carry the manufacturer’s warranty, our workmanship carries our 5-Year Craftsmanship Warranty, and our Columbia office is minutes away if you ever need us.

Straight Answers to the Wood Siding Questions We Hear Most

Cedar is the usual answer, and for good reason: it naturally resists decay and insects better than most species. Redwood and cypress perform similarly at a premium price, while pine is the budget option that demands the most diligent finishing. In our humidity, the species matters less than two things: keeping a sound finish on the wood and installing it with proper clearances from soil and roof lines. We’ll recommend a species based on your home and your appetite for upkeep.

Natural wood is solid sawn lumber: genuine grain, repairable, refinishable, and dependent on you for protection. LP SmartSide is wood strand bonded with resins and treated throughout against moisture, rot, and termites, so the protection is built into the board, not just painted on. It also resists hail better and holds finish longer. The trade-off is that it’s a manufactured product, so it can’t be sanded back to bare grain the way cedar can.

As a rule of thumb, stains need refreshing roughly every 3 to 5 years and quality paint every 5 to 8, with sun-facing walls wearing out first. Missouri humidity and freeze-thaw cycles sit at the demanding end of that range. The most expensive mistake is stretching the cycle: once the finish fails, water gets into bare wood and the next job involves repairs, not just paint.

If rot is isolated to a few boards and the moisture source is fixable (an overflowing gutter, mulch piled against the wall), repair is usually the right call. If you’re finding soft spots on multiple walls, the boards are cupping widely, or repairs keep recurring, replacement is the smarter spend, and it’s the natural moment to consider engineered wood. We’ll probe the walls and tell you honestly which side of the line your house is on.

Well-maintained cedar can last 30 years and beyond, and neglected cedar can fail in 10 to 15. The difference is almost entirely finish upkeep and installation details like sealed ends and ground clearance. That’s the honest math: cedar’s lifespan is less a property of the wood than of the owner.

Woodpeckers usually target wood that’s already soft or harboring insects, so recurring damage in one spot is often a moisture or pest symptom, not just bad luck. We repair the damage, address the underlying softness, and can talk through deterrents. For homes with chronic problems, engineered wood and fiber cement remove the food source entirely.

Often, yes. Hail splits, gouges, and finish damage from a storm event are typically covered, minus your deductible. Wood adds a wrinkle: finish damage that compromises the protective coating is real damage even when boards aren’t broken, and adjusters can undercount it from the ground. We document everything, meet your adjuster on-site, and advocate for fair compensation.

Repairs are usually done in a day or two. Full replacement on most Columbia homes runs 4 to 7 days, longer than vinyl because of cutting, sealing, flashing detail, and finishing. Prefinished engineered wood shortens the timeline since there’s no painting phase. We’ll give you a specific schedule during your consultation and won’t leave walls exposed with weather coming.

Yes. We offer flexible financing with terms from 12 to 120 months, including $0 down options, and financing can stack with an insurance claim if you want to upgrade beyond what your policy covers. We’ll walk through the numbers during your consultation. See financing options
