What is James Hardie Siding?

James Hardie Maintenance

If you are looking for expert James Hardie maintenance tips regarding the exterior and interior of your home, then you have landed on the right page. In this article, you will find great tips and tricks to safeguard and prolong the life of your James Hardie products from constant wear and tear due to harsh weather conditions so you can enjoy your gorgeous home for years to come.

Cleaning and maintenance are an absolute necessity no matter what type of siding is used in the building of your house. These tips will guarantee that the value and beauty of your house sustain for a long time and that you do not have to bear the huge cost of repair if any arises. The extent and intensity of cleaning required on your house exterior will largely depend on the location the exposure of the building.

Hardie Siding Maintenance Tips:

1- It is important that you clean your James Hardie siding every 6 to 12 months with a water hose on a low pressure to remove the dirt from the surface. For stubborn stains, you can clean the Hardie Siding with a mild detergent and a soft rag. If the surface of the siding is painted then, we recommend that you seek the paint manufacturer regarding its cleaning as the regular method described above might not be suitable to the painted surface.

2- Look out for signs of wearing and tearing in the applied caulking. That is when you need to re apply it before it gets into the cavity of the walls which can increase the amount of damage done to the hardy board and the surface. It is recommended that you apply flexible caulks and sealants while re-applying caulks. This will ensure that the caulk is long lasting and does not wear out again anytime soon. When buying caulk look for words “Permanently flexible” on the label.

3- One very effective way to ensure that water does not seep into the hardy board and siding is that you keep the bushes and shrubs away from them so that the water form sprinklers does not saturate the building and damage the Hardie siding.

4- A very crucial part in the home exterior maintenance is the regular cleaning of the gutters and pipes of your house. Many people overlook this part which results in heavy repair costs once a pipe breaks out or a gutter overflows.

5- Make sure that the drainage slopes are regularly maintained. Moreover, do not fill landscaping up to the siding which again will cause water to seep in and damage it.

If you carefully follow these tips, then you can really prolong the life of your siding and other exterior of your home. These tips are not only easy but are designed in a way so that you can incorporate them easily in your schedule without having to disturb your other activities around the house.
